RDA:
  • For adults = 900 mcg
  • Pregnant females = 1000 mcg
  • Lactating females = 1300 mcg
Inhibiting factors: Excess zinc (oysters)
  • Copper is required for the metabolism of fats
  • Copper and iron are required for the development of hemoglobin
  • Copper helps protect lungs from infection
  • Copper is vital for the prevention of blood vessels ruptures and may prevent the degeneration of heart muscles
  • Balance between zinc and copper is crucial
